Back from Hiatus

When we last saw our hero, he was sleeping by day and working as a mild-mannered Guest Registration Manager by night. In the four intervening years, he changed jobs again, joined the church "choir," took up new interests in classic movies, old time radio and model trains, and was adopted by a local family as though he was a stray dog. (Still no wife; refer to previous sentence for explanation.)

However, despite having connected his little mountain home to the outside world via the internet, he also stopped blogging. Now he's looking to change that. Nothing drastic, mind you; he has a lot of dishes to wash and usually works too long at the office. But he's also written a couple new poems, taken a few field trips and tested some good cocktails, all of which he thought he might tell you about occasionally.

And he still rants like a ninety-year-old codger as much as ever, because somethings never change.

A Change of Scenery

By now you have noticed that I have taken advantage of Blogger's updated template designs.  This look is slightly less boring than previous incarnations.

Also, I have lots of potential blog posts rolling around in my brain or saved as drafts.  Unfortunately, I haven't had much interest in completing any of them.  It might be the sunshine and the pleasant mountain air.

Or maybe I've just been a little bored with the "necessity" of blogging.

So expect me to be pretty scarce around these parts for the summer.  I have plans to do more hiking, more book-reading (remember those things?), more evangelization, more work on this year's goals, and the like.  Just not more blogging.

I may be around occasionally; however, when winter hibernation comes, I expect to be back full force.

In rereading over the past sixish years of my life, I realized that there is much about which I neglected to inform you. I was surprised that I never mentioned my Aunt Jean's death in May 2007 or that I left you in the dark regarding my (now obvious) decision not to continue on the path to the priesthood. I also thought there was more of my poetry out on the interwebs for the world to laugh at.

We'll fill in these gaping holes soon.

But not too soon.

A Little Blog Housekeeping...

...as opposed to the housekeeping I do the pay the bills.

I have several posts in the draft stage, and I am working on them sporadically. I hope to get up something substantial soon.

In the meantime, remember that I am re-posting posts from my previous blog, beginning from the beginning (a good place to start). This is far easier for Lazy Seth to accomplish than writing new posts. So you might be interested in going back in time to see the extent of the boringness of my life; I know I find it interesting. I'm also trying to label my posts for easy sorting.

Question: I have not been allowing comments on the re-posts; do you suggest I reverse this? There were, of course, comments to these posts on the previous blog. My thinking on limiting new comments was a) because I don't know how to re-post previous comments and b) to preserve my ego by not looking lame because no one has commented on my many years of thoughts.

I suppose there might be older posts to which people would be interested in making new responses. If that is the case, let me know.

Perhaps You've Noticed...

...that I've been on hiatus for the past six months. During this time I've realized that I have outgrown Xanga. Thank you for these past (five!) years.

Let's Try This Again

You might have noticed that there is quite a gap between this Blogger post and the previous Blogger post. That's if you consider three years to be a long time. I guess I hadn't completely growed up, as I had then stated. I continued to blog on Xanga for a while.

I've now been on blogging hiatus for six months. My reason for the break are manifold and include the fact that I do not have an internet connection at my home and my aforementioned Xanga-fatigue.

At some point during my hiatus, I was chatting with a friend who mentioned that they missed my postings. I did state to my friend that I was considering starting up again and taking my time posting--perhaps typing something out on word processor, saving the file, revising it, and uploading it when I have access to the internets. I posited posting once a week or so, or maybe just a couple times a month. After all, that's all the frequent I was ever really posting.

It turns out that that sort of leisurely, deliberate blogging has a name: slow blogging. It also seems to gaining in popularity, if this New York Times piece is any indication. Who knew that I was years ahead of this trend?

So this is my triumphal return to the blogosphere. I can't say with what frequency I will post. Or on what topics. But during these long, cold mountain winters, it will be nice to reconnect with the outside world, even if in an impersonally digital way.

All Growed Up

This is my first Blogger post. I am making the switch from Xanga--which I feel I've outgrown--to a more "mature" setting.
